Financial Services - Calyon

Calyon, a leading player in France and Europe in retail banking and related businesses, wanted to replace its mainframe based general ledger with Oracle Financials. It wanted to replace the reporting capabilities with Business Objects. Calyon wanted to move away from legacy technologies and they also wanted to implement a solution that minimized the amount of custom code to write and maintain. The bank was about to embark upon a large merger. The legacy general ledger was not robust enough to meet the new requirements.

The new system would support the Accounting, Regulatory Reporting, Commercial Banking, Tax, Capital Markets, and Operations departments. Calyon decided not to replace all of their applications with Oracle Financials, the scope of the project was to replace the general ledger and the associated reporting only. Since Oracle only contained General Ledger information, a reporting warehouse was needed in order to replace all of the legacy reporting. Northpoint implemented both an ad hoc and a batch reporting solution using the Business Objects suite of tools.

Calyon was able to completely retire their mainframe general ledger and focus based reporting solution with Oracle Financial and Business Objects. The new solution has only a limited amount of custom code that Calyon needs to maintain on an ongoing basis, resulting in a low cost of maintenance. Since the scope of the solution includes both ad hoc and batch reporting capabilities, the consumers of the data were able to get all of the reports that they were accustomed to getting without interruption, and they also now have the tools to perform their own ad hoc query and analysis.
